The City's lame "apology" that Jaddo got to read in the paper.
This just pisses me off. Scott Snider never said, "I'm sorry, I'm an ass." The City Mgr. issued a formal apology through the media. LAme!

Nursing mom outraged' by official's censorship
Re: The article "City official censors art for display at Buddy Holly Center" (A-J, Dec. 13).
I am absolutely outraged by a city official's "censorship" of the beautiful artwork of Lahib Jaddo.I want to know what Assistant City Manager Scott Snider feels is so terribly offensive about an image of a mother choosing to nourish her baby with the best form of nutrition possible. I've seen both of the offending pieces of art and really can't understand how the nursing mother is offensive.
As a nursing mother myself, I've had to deal with the stigma of breastfeeding in public in West Texas, even though I've always been incredibly discreet and usually cover more of my body during breastfeeding than when not. So, thanks a bunch, Mr. Snider, for making it even harder to feed my baby on-the-go. Oh, and I plan on nursing my baby in public as often as possible now, with complete abandon, and without a cover-up.

AJ Article on Banned Art
I'm so pissed. Lubbock City Council is a joke!
I'm sure everyone has heard about the latest censorship crusade of the council members.
I think both of the banned pieces of artwork are beautiful and... I want to know what the hell is so obscene about a mother breastfeeding her child. You can't even see her breast! This makes me LIVID!!! I want to make an appointment with Scott Snider and take Scarlett with me. I'll nurse her through the meeting. Or maybe I'll just go have a nurse-in at the next city council meeting. This is absolutely disgusting behavior! Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful thing. It's the most loving thing a mother can do for her baby. And these SICKOS on city council are trying to pervert it. Why are people like Scott Snider in office? I don't get involved in political things, but this crap has got to stop!
Calling all Lactivists and Concerned Citizens:
If you don't already know about how pissed I am at the Lubbock City Council about this, then you don't read my blog or bulletins. But even if that is the case, you should read the story in the link. You'll probably be outraged.
I've been communicating with Vince from the Lubbock chapter of the ACLU and plans for a nurse-in are underway. Watch Fox34 news at 9 for more details or email him at mitigate1@xanadoo.com. please pass this along and plan to come to nurse or just support families and local art. Lets tell our city government that we don't think it's OK to censor something natural and beautiful.
Thanks a bunch,
Ali
Mayor David Miller: a douche-bag?
I think so... Coward!
Can you believe his comment? After they had the nerve to ban the artwork, he's sayin that it's not something the mayor should comment on. Why did you people vote for him?
***EDITED TO ADD***
I also posted this here:
I've already sent an email with my opinion, but I'll post it here again. I'd like to know why someone is opposed to this, just out of curiosity.
There is nothing obscene about pregnancy or breastfeeding- in fact they are probably the most beautiful aspects of womanhood, definitely muse-worthy. And nudes and art have gone hand-in-hand since the dawn of civilization, as evidenced by cave paintings in the Fertile Crescent. More over, every historically significant artist has produced nude art. Anyone who is working at an Art Venue should have some knowledge of art history- I'm really disappointed in Lubbock and the Buddy Holly Center.
But the most unsettling thing about this whole fiasco is that the Lubbock City Counsel is sending the message to her citizens that breastfeeding is dirty. Everyone knows about all of the health benefits of breastmilk, and most people know that it helps mother and baby bond, but only mothers who have nursed their babies know how nerve-racking it can be when baby is hungry and you aren't at home. Even after looking around for a secluded corner (with a crying baby, mind you) and being incredibly discreet, covering up from neck to lap with a blanket or coat, I get disapproving stares, and even rude suggestions to, "go to the bathroom to do that, for goodness sake." I've seen many of the public restrooms around town and they are not the place I want to have my next meal, so that is simply not an option for my baby. I'm so angry with the City, because they have only told those people that what they are doing is alright, regardless of Texas State Law (House Bill 359) protecting my right to nurse anywhere that I'm authorized to be. I'm so proud of everyone who is standing up for nursing mothers. It's nauseating that someone finds breastfeeding sexually explicit. It seems like this Scott Snider fellow is a pervert...
ACLU is officially involved now!
I feel like little miss riot grrl is back, only grow-up... Tell everyone you know about this, even if you aren't local. This is an outrage!

I love my kids so much. Scarlett is the most beautiful, brightest, sweetest little baby girl I've ever seen. I'm really not just sayinf that b/c I'm the mommy. This dress is over 50 years old and was worn by her grandmother.
And Aidan is just so freakin awesome. He loves music- we made a CD a few nights ago and he plays it over and over again. He really loves rockabilly and M. Ward. And he's pretty darn adorable, too...

For the last three days, I've been in the hospital... again. I started bleeding really badly again. I'm pretty sure it's from not following the doc's orders from last time, which makes me feel really guilty. Luckily, the baby is fine, infact all her stuff looked really good. They couldn't see her blood vessels covering my cervix anymore- it could be because they only did a regular sonogram and not the transvaginal (I know, everyone wants to hear about this), but I'm hoping that it's because they migrated as my uterus grew and that I may just be able to have a natural birth now. The placenta is still low, so they are saying it'll still probably be a c-section, but I'm super hopeful.
So, now I'm suppose to basically lay in bed till I have this baby. That's is pretty much impossible, since I have a 20-month-old, but I'm going to try my best. We're trying to get him in day care- i'm still not excited about the idea- and I've been getting a lot of help around the house. I'm really scared that I'll have the baby early and she'll be in the NICU with tubes all over her- it makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

Tonights menu:
Garlic Caesar Salad
Bruschetta al Pomodoro
Spicy Shrimp and Chicken ala Johnny Carino's
Homemade Tiramisu
I enjoy cooking veg. meals, but I really like that chicken dish at Johnny Carino's. It's super fatty and high in artery-clogging cholesterol, but I figure it's ok to indulge every once in a while. I am pregnant (I'm using that as my get-out-of-jail-free card for everything!) I love that I've waited tables at some of my favorite restraunts. If you are nice to the cooks and your pay attention, you can learn to make your favorite dishes at home (this is also what caused me to give up alfredo sauce- it's just lots of heavy cream, parmesan cheese, garlic and butter- 4lbs in every batch at Olive Garden, if I remember correctly).
If I keep this up, I'll gain 50lbs like I did with Aidan. Man, it was hard to shead it in prison. I was working out 1-2 hours a day, either doing aerobics videos in the gym or jogging on the rec. yard. And I did it 4-7 days a week (it was hard because I was always on "cell restriction" for not following the stupid TDCJ rules, and I had to be sneeky... Isn't that ridiculous? I had to sneek around to exercise). Anyway, I hope that I don't gain a buttload. I'm shutting up now.
